Since I love working with my hands, I obviously also have a love for the kitchen. Funny thing is, I've never been much of a baker... but things are about to change!!!
I just bought (an early Xmas-prezzy for myself) a brand new Kitchen-Aid for my brand new house in a brand new city - and I can't WAIT to get it out of the box and start experimenting!
My sister (who is quite the baker, might I add) showed me the ropes the other night and we whipped up a few batches of cookies in no time - it really got me itching to start baking all sorts of holiday goodies.
We improvised for the traditional chocolate chip cookies (it was kind of a spur-of-the-moment thing and we hadn't a chocolate chip in the house)... so we used Hershey's Hugs as well as an oversized bar of dark bittersweet chocolate instead (YUM!).
(By the way - did you know that there's a fairly large sized lump of milk chocolate inside each and every Hug?! I was quite surprised to find that! I always tend to pop the things in my mouth so quickly, I've never had time to perform a dissection!)
We also whipped up a few soft gingerbread cookies as well (the kind that are a little gooey in the middle) - those were definitely my favorite. Rolled in sugar and just... perfect.

Here's the recipe for the Chocolate Chip (or, as we made them, Chocolate Chunk) Cookies:
2/3 cup shortening
2/3 cup butter/marg, softened
1 cup sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
12 oz chocolate of choice, chopped roughly
Mix dry ingredients. Mix wet ingredients.
Combine wet & dry ingredients.
Spoon onto greased baking sheet.
Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes or until done...
Bring on the milk!! :)
